Ihram sourced from Pakistan is governed by Islamic law rather than buyer preference or market standard — three requirements are non-negotiable: optical white only (CIE whiteness index ≥80, no colour, stripe, pattern or non-white logo), unsewn construction (two rectangular pieces, hemmed on four edges only, no shaped garment construction), and 100% cotton fibre content (polyester blends are religiously contested and generate buyer complaints, particularly from Saudi and Egyptian Hajj tour operators). Pakistan's white terry weaving sector — the same manufacturing base producing OEKO-TEX certified white bath towels for European hotel groups — is the primary global source for Ihram terry fabric; white woven cotton (200–250 GSM poplin or muslin) is available from the same bed linen mills. Lead time for Hajj season supply must account for the Islamic calendar — the Hajj month (Dhul Hijjah) moves approximately 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year, which shifts the Hajj supply deadline by the same amount annually. See the Ihram fabric requirements guide for the full specification and GSM selection by season before specifying.
Pakistan's terry weaving industry — the same manufacturing base producing certified white terry bath towels for European hotel groups and institutional buyers — is the primary global source for Ihram terry fabric. The white terry GSM standards, whiteness specifications and yarn quality used in hotel bath towel production translate directly to Ihram terry production.
Step 1 — Understand the Non-Negotiable Specification
Before specifying any other parameter for Ihram from Pakistan: the product must be (1) white — optical whiteness index ≥80 CIE, no colour stripe, border, pattern or non-white logo; (2) unsewn — two rectangular pieces, hemmed on four edges only, no shaped garment construction; (3) 100% cotton — the standard specification; polyester blends are religiously contested and create buyer complaints.
Step 2 — Select GSM by Hajj Season
| Hajj month (Islamic calendar) | Season | Recommended GSM | Construction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dhul Hijjah (varies — summer Gregorian) | Hot — 35–45°C Makkah | 300–350 GSM lightweight terry | Standard loop pile |
| Dhul Hijjah (varies — cooler season) | Mild — 20–30°C Makkah | 380–420 GSM medium terry | Standard loop pile |
| Dhul Hijjah (winter alignment — rare) | Cold — 10–20°C Makkah (nights) | 450–500 GSM heavy terry | Standard or heavier loop pile |
| Umrah (year-round) | Varies by month | 380–420 GSM medium terry (universal) | Standard loop pile |
Step 3 — Specify Size
Both pieces of an Ihram set — the Ridaa (upper) and Izaar (lower) — must be large enough to provide full coverage for the pilgrim's body. Standard commercial Ihram size: 100×200 cm per piece. Extended size for larger pilgrims: 110×220 cm. Youth size for teenage pilgrims: 90×180 cm. Specify size clearly in the RFQ — size complaints are the most common post-delivery issue in Ihram procurement. Most buyers order standard and extended as two separate SKUs rather than one size-fits-all.
Step 4 — Hem Specification
The only permitted stitching on an Ihram set is the hem on all four edges. Specify: (1) hem width — typically 1–2 cm; (2) hem stitch type — lockstitch or chainstitch (both acceptable); (3) hem colour — white thread only, matching the fabric. Any decorative hem, contrasting thread colour or border adds a non-white element to the fabric — do not specify coloured hem thread.
Step 5 — Packing for Hajj Tour Operators
Hajj package tour operators (Hajj tour companies in the UK, USA, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia and Turkey) are the largest volume buyers of Ihram from Pakistan. Standard packing for tour operator supply: one Ridaa + one Izaar in a single polybag; polybag with tour company name printed on header card; carton marking with size, GSM, quantity and PO number. Include a care label with wash instruction (machine wash 40°C, do not bleach with chlorine bleach, tumble dry low) sewn inside the hem — not on the outer face of the fabric.
Step 6 — Order and Lead Time Calendar
Hajj season is fixed by the Islamic (Hijri) calendar and moves approximately 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. For Ihram procurement, work backwards from the Hajj date: production lead time from Pakistan is 45–60 days; sea freight to UK/EU is 20–25 days, to USA is 25–30 days, to Middle East is 8–12 days. Order confirmation and deposit must be placed at least 90 days before the required delivery date. Hajj tour operators who confirm late find themselves competing for the same production capacity as other operators — factory allocation closes early in Hajj season.
Download the Ihram specification and order template to document GSM, size, hem specification, whiteness requirement, packing format and volume before submitting your RFQ. Confirm Hajj date and required delivery date in the RFQ — Ihram is a season-critical product.
