How to Write a Towel GSM Specification

A GSM specification that factories can actually quote accurately should include:

1. Target GSM — e.g. "550 GSM"

2. Tolerance — industry standard is ±5%. "550 GSM ±5%" is a valid and testable specification

3. Yarn type — combed cotton, ring-spun cotton, or blended (cotton/polyester for faster drying)

4. Construction — cut pile, loop pile (terry), or velour face

5. Test method — ISO 3801 or ASTM D3776 (weight of fabric per unit area)

Factories that quote without a confirmed GSM are quoting a different product. Always include GSM in your Tech Pack before requesting a quotation.
