Bath Mat Size & Weight Reference Chart
Standard sizes, GSM grades, backing types and quality requirements for hotel, retail and institutional buyers
Use this reference document when specifying bath mats for hotel programmes, retail sets or institutional supply from Pakistan. Includes standard size charts for major international markets, GSM guidance by application, backing type comparison and a specification template for your RFQ.
1. Standard Bath Mat Sizes by Market
| Product | Size (cm) | Size (inches) | Primary market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bath mat — standard | 50 × 80 cm | 20" × 31" | Global hospitality, EU/UK retail |
| Bath mat — large | 60 × 90 cm | 24" × 35" | USA, Middle East premium |
| Bath mat — XL | 70 × 110 cm | 28" × 43" | Luxury retail and resort |
| Pedestal mat | 45 × 45 cm | 18" × 18" | UK retail standard |
| Pedestal mat (round) | Ø55 cm | Ø22" | EU and UK retail |
| Contour mat (toilet base) | 50 × 50 cm | 20" × 20" | USA and UK retail sets |
| Bath runner | 50 × 160 cm | 20" × 63" | Spa, resort and specialty retail |
| Step-out mat (spa grade) | 80 × 120 cm | 31" × 47" | 5-star spa and wellness |
2. GSM Grades by Application
| GSM (tufted) | Application | Pile height (approx.) | Durability (commercial wash) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 600–800 GSM | Budget institutional, promotional | 8–10 mm | Good — 80–100 cycles |
| 800–1,000 GSM | Mid-market hospitality, retail sets | 10–13 mm | Very good — 120–150 cycles |
| 1,000–1,400 GSM | 4-star and 5-star hotel standard | 13–16 mm | Excellent — 150–200 cycles |
| 1,400–2,000 GSM | Luxury hotel, department store retail | 16–20 mm | Excellent — 200+ cycles |
GSM is measured on the complete finished mat including backing. A '1,200 GSM' specification must be confirmed by weighing the whole mat divided by surface area — not the pile fabric alone.
3. Anti-Slip Backing Comparison
| Backing type | Max wash temp | Anti-slip rating | OEKO-TEX scope | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SBR latex (standard) | 60°C | High | Must cover full mat | Hotel / institutional standard |
| Natural rubber latex | 60°C | Very high | Must cover full mat | 5-star hotel, premium retail |
| TPR (thermoplastic rubber) | 60°C+ | Very high | Must cover full mat | High-durability retail |
| PVC spray | 40°C | Medium | REACH check required | Budget / value segment |
| None (flat woven) | Machine wash | Weight-based | Not applicable | Woven / hammam retail |
4. OEKO-TEX Certification Scope Requirement
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 must be tested on the complete bath mat including the anti-slip backing. A certificate covering 'terry pile fabric' only does not certify the backing chemistry. When requesting OEKO-TEX certification, specify: 'Complete finished bath mat including [backing type] anti-slip backing — Article Category II (products with skin contact).'
