Snap closure specification is a safety requirement: all snaps on baby bibs must meet minimum 15 mm diameter, 90N pull test, and nickel-free hardware under EU Nickel Directive EN 1811; tie closures are not recommended for unsupervised infant wear due to strangulation risk. GOTS certification is available for organic cotton muslin and double gauze bib programmes from Pakistan's mills, which produce the same terry and muslin constructions used in adult bath textiles.

Step 2 — Absorbency Layer Specification
Terry loop face: highest absorbency; the standard for drool bibs. Double gauze face: excellent after multiple washes; softer initial feel; preferred for bandana and premium gift bibs. Flannel face: medium absorbency; soft; suitable for newborn drool bibs. PUL (polyurethane laminate) backing: waterproof; standard for feeding bibs to prevent bleed-through; specify backing weight (50–80 GSM laminate). Note: PUL-backed bibs must still achieve OEKO-TEX Class 1 on all layers including the laminate.
Step 3 — Closure Type
Snap closure: most secure; specify nickel-free metal snap (minimum 15 mm diameter); standard for drool and feeding bibs. Velcro: adjustable; suitable for feeding bibs; avoid velcro on drool bibs worn constantly (velcro pill accumulation on baby clothing). Tie closure: traditional; not recommended for unsupervised infant wear (strangulation risk). Specify closure type in the purchase order — this is a safety specification decision, not an aesthetic one.
Step 4 — Custom Print and Branding
Reactive print on double gauze face: only accepted print method for OEKO-TEX Class 1 compliance. Embroidery: standard for bandana bib branding; specify stitch count, thread Pantone and placement. Woven label: for brand label at back neck; specify label content (brand name, size, care, origin). Gift set packaging: 3-bib set in muslin pouch or gift box — specify insert card dimensions and printing requirement.
Step 5 — Certification
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 mandatory on all bib components including PUL backing and snap hardware. GOTS for organic muslin bib programmes (double gauze or terry from organic cotton). EN 71-3 migration testing on all metal components. Snap pull test at PP approval. Confirm certification requirements in the sourcing quote form.
