Shorts from Pakistan are supplied to fashion retail, beachwear, athletic and promotional buyers across the USA, UK, EU, Australia, South America and the Middle East in four primary types: chino shorts (cotton twill 220–280 GSM, no lining, the USA/UK/EU casual retail standard), linen shorts (linen-cotton blend 180–240 GSM, premium casual for UK, EU and Australian summer retail), swim shorts (polyester taffeta or nylon with mesh lining, 80–120 GSM face, 2–3" inseam the US standard vs 5–7" European), and active/athletic shorts (polyester interlock or tricot with moisture-wicking finish, 130–160 GSM). Step 2 — Inseam Length Specification
Inseam length is a primary market variable. 2–4 in (5–10 cm): micro short — women's fashion, beach. 5 in (12–13 cm): short and active — USA athletic and beach retail. 7 in (17–18 cm): standard casual — the most common USA men's retail length. 9 in (22–23 cm): longer length — conservative markets, Middle East retail. 11 in (27–28 cm): board short length — surf and beach programme standard. Specify in the unit of your target market: inches for USA, cm for EU.
Step 3 — Waistband and Closure
Flat-front button waistband: standard casual — specify button diameter and YKK zip or equivalent. Drawstring waistband (elastic + drawstring): swim shorts and active; specify cord diameter, cord material and tie-end type. Full elastic waistband: active and institutional; specify elastic width. Contrast waistband binding: fashion-forward; specify contrast colour.
Step 4 — Swim Short Specific Requirements
Mesh lining is mandatory for men's swim shorts — specify mesh weight (80–100 GSM) and attachment method. Side seam pocket with velcro closure: standard for board shorts. Seams: use 4-thread safety stitch on all seams for stretch recovery when wet. Chlorine and saltwater colour fastness: specify minimum ISO 105-E03 (chlorinated water) Grade 4 for pool and beach programmes.
Step 5 — Custom Branding and Certification
Screen print: standard for swim shorts and active shorts. Embroidery: for premium chino and linen shorts. Sublimation all-over print: available on 100% polyester swim shorts. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for all markets. GRS certification for recycled polyester swim shorts — increasingly required by EU and UK retailers. BSCI for EU buyers.
