Sourcing Socks from Pakistan: Knit Types, Custom Jacquard & MOQ

Socks from Pakistan are produced in Karachi and Sialkot's manufacturing cluster on computerised knitting machines capable of jacquard patterns in up to 12 colours, graduated compression programming (Class 1 at 15–21 mmHg through Class 3 at 34–46 mmHg), and seamless toe construction — covering retail, athletic, corporate promotional and medical applications. Yarn composition is the primary specification decision: combed cotton blends (75–80% cotton, 20–25% nylon/elastane) for casual and dress; merino wool blends (50–70% merino) for premium outdoor and hiking; performance polyester/nylon (70–80%) for athletic and moisture-wicking programmes; and bamboo-cotton blends (70–80% bamboo) for premium eco-retail. MOQ for custom jacquard is typically 200–500 pairs per design per colour; OEKO-TEX Standard 100 applies to all yarn and finished sock components including elastane fibres and any anti-bacterial treatments.

Knit gauge (needles per inch): 9–12 gauge: coarser knit, visible texture, sportswear and casual. 14–16 gauge: standard dress and casual sock. 200 needle (fine gauge): sheer dress sock. Terry knit foot bed: looped terry pile on the inside foot area for cushioning — specify terry area (full foot, heel-to-toe, or heel and toe only). Arch support: elastane reinforcement band across the arch — specify elastane denier and extension.

Step 3 — Toe Closure Options

Linked toe: a separate machine links the toe seam; the seam is visible inside the sock. Hand-linked toe: individually hand-closed on a form; no visible seam ridge inside — premium; specify for all socks where comfort is the priority. Seamless (tubular knit closed on the circular machine): completely seamless; premium comfort; suitable for medical and children's socks.

Step 4 — Custom Jacquard Design

Custom jacquard uses colour-programmed knitting machines to create patterns, logos and illustrations in the sock body. Colour count: typically 3–5 colours maximum for standard machines; 8–12 colours for premium electronic machines. Repeat size: pattern repeat is fixed by machine needle count — you cannot print an arbitrary-size design. Submit artwork to the factory for a digital mockup before sampling. MOQ for custom jacquard: typically 200–500 pairs per design per colour, depending on machine type.

Step 5 — Compression Specification

Compression socks are graduated (tightest at ankle, reducing up the leg). Classes: Class 1 (15–21 mmHg): mild compression; travel and recovery. Class 2 (23–32 mmHg): moderate medical compression; requires medical device registration in some markets. Class 3 (34–46 mmHg): heavy medical compression. For Class 2 and above: factory must hold relevant medical device manufacturing certification (ISO 13485 in EU; 510(k) pathway in USA).
